Many patients ask me, Why can’t I get a 10 ml bottle of testosterone? In general, I am very much in favor of 10 milliliter bottles. They are much easier to use, and provide versatility for many doses that are very impractical with 1 ml bottles. What do you do if your dose is ¾ ml? do you throw the res away? If if your dose is 1 ¼ ml? what so you do with the remaining ¾ ml? its very wasteful at times.
Unfortunately, pharmacies are not on the same page when this comes to my prescribing wishes . I recently had a prescription sent to the public’s pharmacy for a 10 ml bottle. It turns out that the computer has an automatic system to change those to 10 one mL bottles! I spoke to the pharmacist about this, and he had to manually go into the system and override this change in order to get me a 10 ml bottle. He did this as a favor to me because I am an MD that prescribes lots there! This was also dependent upon the supplier having a 10 ml bottle for me to receive! He told me that it would be impractical to expect that other pharmacists would override the system enough to get patients a 10 ml bottle through many pharmacies like Publix. Unfortunately, I have very much in favor of these bottles, but I have to be realistic that we’re kind of fighting a systems that is determined to to make it difficult.
I seek other solutions for this, but right now, if you request a 10 ml bottle and you don’t get a 10 ml bottle, it is not my doing . you could consider speaking with a pharmacist, but I am not optimistic that many patients will be able to use this mechanism to obtain it, and we will have to , unfortunately, just deal with one mL bottles.
