Testosterone dosing
I have noticed in my years of experience that testosterone seems to linger more in the system over time.
For example, a new patient om testosterone will need a high dose to maintain levels. If they miss a dose they feel the deficiency! However, people that have been on testosterone for long periods, they seem more tolerant to missing a dose.
And also, over time, many patients are able to maintain decent levels on decreasing doses!
So, I researched testosterone metabolism to see if my suspicions were correct, that’s there is some storage going on! it turns out that testosterone is stored in fat and muscle! so over time, it develops a reserve that eases interruption of therapy.
For me, this explains some of the dosing inconsistencies I have noticed, and maybe for you too.
Injectable testosterone can be stored in the body, but the extent of storage and duration of action depend on various factors.
# Factors Influencing Testosterone Storage
1. *Type of testosterone ester*: Different testosterone esters, such as testosterone cypionate, enanthate, or propionate, have varying durations of action and storage times.
2. *Dose and frequency of injections*: Higher doses and more frequent injections can lead to greater storage of testosterone in the body.
3. *Individual metabolism*: Genetic factors, liver function, and enzyme activity can influence how quickly testosterone is metabolized and stored.
4. *Body composition*: Testosterone can be stored in adipose tissue, so individuals with more body fat may store more testosterone.
# Storage Forms of Testosterone
1. *Intra-muscular storage*: Testosterone can be stored in muscle tissue, particularly in the form of testosterone esters.
2. *Adipose tissue storage*: Testosterone can be stored in adipose tissue, where it can be released slowly over time.
3. *Hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) binding*: Testosterone can bind to SHBG, a protein that transports hormones in the blood. This bound testosterone can be stored and released as needed.
# Duration of Action and Detection Times
1. *Testosterone cypionate*: 7-10 days duration of action, detectable in blood for up to 3 months.
2. *Testosterone enanthate*: 7-10 days duration of action, detectable in blood for up to 3 months.
3. *Testosterone propionate*: 3-4 days duration of action, detectable in blood for up to 2 weeks.
Please note that these times are approximate and can vary depending on individual factors and testing methods.
