What is your HsCRP (your inflammation test)?

By Dr. Raymond Adamcik, M.D.

Most physicians don’t check an Hs CRP, but this is a good measure of your general health and a measure of your risk for many illnesses. We monitor it routinely in my office.

Cardiovascular risk is directly related to your inflammation number. Other illnesses can also raise your inflammation number. These include autoimmune conditions like Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Crohn’s disease, and other GI and inflammatory conditions, can also raise your inflammation test. Higher inflammation is also associated with a higher risk for cancer and for death.

There are many other factors that can affect your inflammation number. Acute infections can throw off this number, but it will resolve spontaneously in about a month or two. Other factors raise the inflammation number. Belly Fat is inflammatory! Certain diets (High Carbohydrate or protein diets) are inflammatory. Certain nutrients and vitamins are anti-inflammatory, like vitamin C and omega 3.

We include measurement of our inflammatory test on all our routine laboratory orders and make recommendations How to Improve Your body’s inflammation.
